Spring 2024 Seminar Series: Native Voices in STEM
Place Based Learning and Cultural Fire Practice in California
This professional seminar series invites Native scientists, engineers, activists, community members and leaders to share their personal and professional journeys, providing inspiration to the next generation of change makers. Register once to attend all seminars in Spring 2024.
The March 12th seminar speaker will be Dr. Deniss Martinez. She will be discussing “Place Based Learning and Cultural Fire Practice in California.” Deniss is a community engaged environmental justice scholar and a Tutunaku and Mexica scholar. As an immigrant to the U.S., she is excited to be able to give back to the indigenous communities that welcomed her and her family when she was a child. She also looks forward to addressing some of the problems she noticed growing up in the forests of Northern California, including catastrophic fire, tribal food insecurity, and degradation of natural resources.
