Indian Natural Resource Science & Engineering Program + Diversity in STEM (INRSEP+) Seminar Series
Humboldt Bay, California’s First Offshore Wind Port
Cal Poly Humboldt’s Virtual Zoom Wednesdays continues September 13th, with Rob Holmlund, Development Director for Humboldt Bay Port Authority. Offshore wind shows pivotal potential. The Federal and State Governments have both adopted ambitious goals to switch entirely to renewable energy. Studies from the US Dept of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), and the California State Lands Commission, both independently identified Humboldt Bay as critical to offshore wind and therefore critical to our nation’s ability to address climate change.
Rob Holmlund is overseeing the Port’s development of a 180-acre heavy-lift marine terminal that will serve as the US West Coast’s first floating offshore wind manufacturing and vertical assembly facility. Rob’s professional background is in site development, urban planning, environmental permitting, economic development, and public engagement.
