American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting

Developing a Multi-Institutional Certificate Program to Center Indigenous Knowledges in STEM Curricula (Session ED43A-04)

The AGU (American Geophysical Union) Fall Meeting is the most influential event in the world dedicated to the advancement of Earth and space sciences. The 2022 meeting is held in Chicago, Illinois. Every year, AGU Fall Meeting convenes more than 25,000 attendees from over 100 countries to share research and network. Researchers, scientists, educators, students, policymakers, enthusiasts, journalists and communicators attend AGU Fall Meeting to better understand our planet and environment, and our role in preserving its future.

In session ED43A-04, multiple voices have identified the need to center Indigenous knowledges in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curricula, both for the benefit of Indigenous students and for the benefit of STEM itself. This presentation describes one approach to center Indigenous knowledges through a multi-institutional certificate program available to Indigenous students in any STEM major.
